Royal Forest and Bird Protection Society

Known as 'Forest and Bird' for short, it is registered as an incorporated society with charitable status and has around 40,000 members - plus 6,000 junior members in its Kiwi Conservation Club.

Its main purpose is to preserve and protect the indigenous plants and animals and natural features of New Zealand, for the benefit of the public, including future generations.

Forest and Bird's primary role in the Kakapo Recovery Programme is to administer the Threatened Species Trust funds. In addition, it takes an active interest in the welfare of the birds and the long-term survival of the species.
