Booms away

Ranger Diaries

Today I went out and checked on the data from three SNARKS, and finally it seems the males are really getting underway with their booming.

Piripi, Smoko and Stumpy all spent a considerable amount of time at their bowls last night - almost 8 hours in Smoko’s case. He was there from 2225hrs until 0608hrs this morning. A marathon effort considering the sun is rising here just after six! At least he doesn’t have far to go home as he roosts only about 20 metres from his bowl at the moment. Piripi and Stumpy were at their bowls almost all night as well.

When we visit a bowl during the day, we place small sticks in it. The boys don’t like untidiness, so they will always toss the sticks out if they visit the bowl at night, and so it’s easy to get a visual idea of activity. A clean bowl and data on the SNARK makes the walk to the next track and bowl all that much more rewarding!
