What we have known all along has now been confirmed in an electoral and democratic manner!  The kakapo is New Zealand's favourite bird as voted for by the public.  The kakapo came out on top in Forest and Birds Annual Bird of the year contest followed by the takahe and the kokako in third.  To see all the action from the election go here Bird of the Year.   While its great to see our green friends popularity increase it's also important to remember that all of our native species are extremely precious, threatened to some degree and in need of our assistance so get out there and help wherever you can!
