Jo Ledington

Jo is the Operations ranger for all things kakapo. She is ‘Queen of logistics’, ensuring that the right people are in the right place, at the right time.

Having been a Kakapo ranger herself, she thoroughly understands the highs and lows of the work, and is well placed to make sure the kakapo rangers have the right tools and support to carry out their roles.
There is a significant technical aspect to her role; in supporting the rangers she ensures the implementation of the monitoring programmes and research objectives.
During a breeding season she spends lots of time on the islands; keeping things running smoothly, carrying out nest management and any artificial incubation and hand-raising that results.

”This is a challenging, but extremely rewarding job.  Something that keeps me totally enthused, is witnessing people’s first reaction to seeing a kakapo – the birds are simply inspiring.  I love working with dedicated team members and passionate volunteers ”
